Intelligence report says world domination over

The US's National Intelligence Council declares "We can no longer call the shots alone," in a global trends report which sees China, India and Russia as rising power and predicts that the European Union will be a "hobbled giant" by 2025. Thousands oppose US troop agreement

Thousands of Iraqis demonstrated on Friday against the proposed agreement on US troops in their country, which goes to Parliament next week. The protest, called by radical Shia-Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, was addressed by Shia and Sunni-Muslim leaders.

ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrents for Darfur rebels

The ICC's prosecutor is seeking warrants for the arrest of three Darfur rebel leaders in connection with an attack on African peacekeepers last year that left 12 dead. He says a message is being sent that such attacks "would not go unpunished".

Security council boosts UN troops as talks continue on Kivu crisis

The UN approved extra troops for the Democratric Republic of Congo on Thursday. On Friday Laurent Nkunda's rebels claimed that militias allied to government forces were occupying the zone they vacated after this week's peace talks. More discussions take place today as DRC President Joseph Kabila meets his counterparts in Congo Brazzaville and Angola.

The race for leadership of France's Socialist Party continues Friday, with none of the three candidates gaining an outright majority in the first round of voting Thursday. Left-wing candidate Benoît Hamon was eliminated, leading to a second round between former presidential candidate Ségolène Royal and former Employment Minister Martine Aubry.
