Government has clarified that the ongoing investigation of the Publisher of the Plain Truth Newspaper is not an attack on press freedom.

Acting Information Minister, Elizabeth Hoff says the investigation is to verify what she considers an erroneous and damaging publication.

Government last Friday announced it had invited Cyrenus Cephas for questioning after he published a story titled: “Ellen Gov’t supplying Guinean dissidents arms? Junta alleges”.

Madam Hoff believes the publication has the power to create insecurity in the sub-region and downplay efforts by President Sirleaf and other leaders to address the crisis in Guinea.

Madam Hoff in a release says government has no desire to see neighboring countries in crisis and would not allow its soil to be used for subversive activities.

She cautioned media institutions to exhibit professionalism in their reportage as any reckless reporting would be dealt with in accordance with law.

Attorney Cyrenus Cephas has since remained silent on the issue.
