Some partisans of the Liberia Unification Party in Bong County have disassociated themselves from the merger with the ruling Unity Party.
The spokespersons of the partisans said they were not aware of the endorsement of the articles of merger as announced by LUP’s Secretary General Cletus Sieh.
Mr. Sieh told a UP Convention in Gbarnga, LUP was committed to endorsing the articles of merger on February 16, in Grand Cape Mount County.
Gbandala Dolo and Martin Kpolleh accused Mr. Sieh and the party’s National Chairman Isaac Minor of trying to transform the party into a social club.
Meanwhile, the Standard Bearer of the Liberia Action Party says his party remains committed to the articles of merger with the Unity Party and Liberia Unification Party.
Cllr. Varney Sherman said the party will overwhelmingly endorse the merger in the interest of the Liberian people.
Cllr. Sherman said although there may be some partisans who are hesitant, the cause of the merger is honorable.
The LAP Standard bearer says he believes in President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and was sure together they can move the country forward.
At the same time, the ruling Unity Party has signed a resolution endorsing the articles of merger with the Liberia Unification party and the Liberia Action Party.
The resolution was signed by the National Executive Committee of the party during its Convention Saturday in Gbarnga Bong County.
In the resolution, the party said it was important to merge with the two political parties in promotion of the grand coalition signed on April 1, 2009.
The party also said the signing of the resolution was a result of the reflection of a shared history amongst the three political parties.
