The House of Representatives has deferred the passage of the draft Investment Act of 2009 following a heated debate marred by confusion.

It followed strong opposition to some provisions of the bill which some lawmakers believe were ambiguous and controversial.

In its votes Thursday, the House resolved to finalize the passage of the proposed Investment Act to next Tuesday-March 30.

The House said contentions raised on some provisions of the bill would be harmonized and submitted to the plenary for approval.

During the debate, a number of lawmakers observed the bill had two subjects and stressed it must not be passed into law because it violates the Constitution.

Others argued the bill which seeks to repeal the National Investment Act of 1973was vague and its composition open to the NIC Chief Executive.

Earlier, confusion erupted between Speaker Alex Tyler and lawmaker Edward Forh, leading to the disruption of the session for nearly ten minutes.

The bitter exchanges angered Speaker Tyler who mandated the Sergeant-at-arms to escort Representative Forh out of the session, something lawmaker Forh rejected.

It seems like speaker Alex Tyler and company have turned our honorable house into a play-play house. Speaker Tyler needs to claen his human rights record, instead of trying to get into fist fights with other elected representatives. Tyler is so corrupt that if given the chance he will mortgage all of Liberia's natural resources to foreign concessions.
