The Pharmacy Division at the Ministry of Health has warned Chinese and Liberian drugs peddlers in the country.

The Chief Pharmacist of Liberia said the act is illegal and would not be condoned.

Rev. Tijli Tyee said the act of selling drugs with inscriptions not translated in English is also illegal.

He was reacting to reports that Chinese nationals in the country are selling drugs with inscriptions not written in English.

Rev. Tyee said the Pharmacy Board would collaborate with the Ministry of Justice to get drugs peddlers out of the streets.

He told Star Radio inspectors from the Pharmacy Board would be out by next week to affect the mandate.

The Chief Pharmacist also advised the public against purchasing drugs from the peddlers and said the drugs are dangerous.

THERE ARE LOT OF PHARMACIES IN AND AROUND MONROVIA AND ITS SURROUNDING WITHOUT LEGITIMATE PHARMACISTS OR CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIANS. TO BECOME A PHARMACIST, IT TAKES SEVENS YEARS OF SCHOOLING AND LIBERIA LACK PHARMACISTS. PHARMACISTS ARE RESPECTABLE INDIVIDUALS IN THE WORLD AND THEY EARNED PRETTY CLOSED TO NINTY EIGHT THOUSAND US DOLLARS PER YEAR IN THE WESTERN WORLD. LIBERIANS BOTH OLD AND YOUNG ARE IN NEED OF MEDICAL BENEFITS TO HELP SAFE GUIDE OUR DECLING POPULATION. LIBERIA IS A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY THAT DOES NOT MANUFACTURE DRUG/MEDICATION,SO WHERE IS THE MEDICATION THAT IS RUINING THE STREETS AND SUB-STANDARD PHARMACIES COME FROM? THERE ARE THOUSAND OF MEDICATION ERRORS THAT LEAD TO DEATH IN LIBERIA DUE TO THE LACK OF KNOWDLEDGEABLE PHARMACISTS AND CERTIFIED PHARMARY TECHNICIANS. NOT ANY INDIVIDUAL CAN DISPENSED MEDICATION,ONE HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR THAT; OUR PEOPLE NEED SYMPOSIUM/SEMINARS THAT WILL EDUCATION THE MASSES CONCERNING THE USED OF MEDICATION AND ITS SIDE EFFECTS AND EXPIRATION DATE. THERE ARE LOT OF SUB-STANDARD MEDICATION IN LIBERIA AND GOVERNMENT, HEALTH MINISTRY, THE BOARD OF PHARMACY HAVE A HUGE TASK ON HAND TO ERADICATE THIS OLD AGE PROBLEM THAT CONTINUED TO PLAGUE OUR NATION.

WELL, AS MY COMRADE STATED EARLIER, THIS IS AN OLD AGE PROBLEM AND SOME SORT OF LAWS NEEDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO PREVENT IT. IN THE WESTERN WORLD, MEDICATION IS ONLY SOLD IN THE PHARMACY AND IT IS GIVEN TO INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS A VALID PRESCRIPTION FROM A DOCTOR OR CERTIFIED HEALTH PRACTITIONER. IT IS A SERIOUS CONCERN FOR THE MASSES BECAUSE THERE ARE LOT OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO LACK THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF HOW MEDICATION WORKS AND THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE MEDICATION. THE ACT OF SELLING OR DISPENSING MEDICATION TO THE PUBLIC WITHOUT VALID PRESCRIPTION IS TOTALLY IN VIOLATION OF THE PHARMACY ETHICS. ONLY PHARMACISTS AND CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIANS SHOULD DISPENSE MEDICATION TO INDIVIDUAL WITH VALID PRESCRIPTION ORDER. AUTHORITIES CONCERNED SHOULD RE-VISIT THE LAWS ON THE BOOKS OR ESTALBLISH ONE TO SAFE GUIDE THE MASSES OF THE PEOPLE. MAJORITY OF THE LIBERIAN POPULATION IS ILLITERATE AND THAT COULD POSED SERIOUS HARM TO SOME ONE WHO CAN NOT READ AND WRITE. MEDICATION PRESCRIPTION AND DIRECTTION SHOULD BE TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH WHEN IT IS WRITTEN IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE. GOVERNMENT AND THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH, BOARD OF PHARMACY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ACT BECAUSE THEY LACK THE POTENTIAL OF IMPLEMENTING LAWS THAT WILL CUTAIL THIS PROBLEM.

As it is said, action speaks louder than words. This issue as been an age old problem and what we want now is action.liberia is the only country on the planet that such an inhuman thing is happening.About 4000 liberian die every year as a result of unprescribed midication or overdose, what we need is the full implementation of this new mandate. We are tired of hearing speeches.
