The Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization has emphasized the need for support to private businesses.

Dr. Wilfred Hammond believes such support would enhance self-reliance and sustainability.

Dr. Hammond said production of locally made farming tools and other equipment should be encouraged to create employment and generate income.

He spoke on Wednesday during the presentation of a locally made motorized cassava-processing machine to the Imani House Incorporated.

Imani House is an implementing partner of the FAO TeleFood project.

The TeleFood project is supporting two hundred farmers in cassava multiplication, training and distribution of high yielding cassava cuttings to needy farmers.
