The President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate has called on Liberian journalists to uphold the basic tenants of journalism in the discharge of their duties.

Senator Isaac Nyenabo said professionalism was important for nurturing the young democracy in Liberia.

Mr. Nyenabo warned against the publication or broadcast of news items that would not be balanced and credible.

The President Pro tempore made the call Friday at the opening ceremony of a one-day workshop held for Legislative Reporters in Monrovia.

The workshop was held by the Press Union of Liberia.
