President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sacked two officials of the Ministry of lands, Mines and Energy.

Those dismissed are the Deputy Minister of Lands and Mines, Mr. Charles Dagoseh and Assistant Minister James Konuwa.

An Executive Mansion release Thursday said the men were sacked for their roles in granting fake licenses for mining operations.

The President has directed the Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy to review all licenses for gold and diamond mining and investigate their operations.

The President further directed Minister Eugene Shannon to ensure that individuals in possession of the licenses are not engaged in illicit operations.

The President has also requested the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy to enforce the ban on the exportation of scrap metals.

President Sirleaf said the ban would remain enforced as agreements covering the transactions are currently being reviewed for possible renegotiation or cancellation.

I am mordified and distrubed by such a devastating news that the two cabinet members were dismissed for malpractices in their respective duties. Quite frankly, this news is in no way more than indicating to the president how some of her trusted officials are contemplating ways to undermine and ruin her administration. The act is a disgrace and betray that has the propensity of tarnishing the reputable status of our country and the government, and also send a terrible signal to the rest of the world, especially to those that now recognize the present government of being capable and committed to minimizing corruption that the Liberians are not actually ready for any sort of international assistence financially. But I hope these people will face the court of law and explain themselves reasons why they chose to deceive the trust of the Liberian people and the president. It is absolutely unceptable if they really are responsible for said action.
