The United Nations top envoy to Liberia Alan Doss says numerous threats to the peace in Liberia remain despite progress made in consolidating stability.

Mr. Doss said although the political situation has remained quite stable, there are still serious security challenges that require continuing attention and action.

He named high unemployment and unpredictable situations in Liberia’s neighbors as part of several challenges to stability in the country.

Mr. Doss made the statement Thursday in New York when he presented to the UN Security Council the latest situation report on Liberia.

He also said Liberia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission is being hindered in its progress by management, personnel and budgetary difficulties.

Mr. Doss said these problems needed to be urgently resolved so that the Commission could continue its work of ensuring lasting peace in Liberia.
