A visiting United States Ambassador says there is an increase in maternal and child mortality rate in the country.

Ambassador Grover Reeves said the maternal and child mortality rate in Liberia currently stands at fifteen percent.

The visiting United States envoy said his trip was in fulfillment of President George Bush’s Human Dignity Agenda.

The Human Dignity Agenda seeks to deal with the issues of rape, HIV/Aids trafficking in human beings and Maternal and Child Mortality.

Ambassador Reeves said he was in the country to ensure that American investments are placed in some of their priority areas.

He recently served as the United States Ambassador to East Timor.
