Bomi County Representative Alex Tyler has been elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Representative Tyler represents the opposition Liberia Action Party of Cllr. Varney Sherman in the Lower House.

He defeated Representative Edward Ford of Montserrado County thirty-two to twenty-seven votes.

Our Legislative correspondent said there was one discarded vote.

The third candidate for the position, Gbarpolu County Representative Armah Sannoh withdrew from the race and declared his support for Mr. Tyler.

The new Speaker is a student of the Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia.
