The special committee to help ailing journalist Fitzsimmons Jallah says it is disappointed over a statement made by Information Minister Lawrence Bropleh.

The minister had called for the establishment of a trust fund that would cater for journalists who may fall sick or otherwise.

Minister Bropleh said by setting up the trust, ailing journalists would avoid the temptation of begging for help at the eleventh hour.

A statement issued by the GUS for Life committee differs with the minister, saying Jallah is not only a journalist but also an employee of the Information Ministry.

The committee sees Minister Bropleh’s call as a clear failure by the ministry to meaningfully contribute to efforts to save the life of his employee.

The committee further argued that the vision of Minister Bropleh to set up a trust fund has no immediate bearing on efforts to save the life of the ailing journalist.

The committee meanwhile, commended the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives for their cash contribution of one thousand U.S. dollars.
