The first State of the Environment report for Liberia has been launched in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The 131-page report argues that poor waste management and sanitation is a major problem facing Liberia.

The report attributes the poor situation to inadequate laws, weak enforcement of laws, lack of substantial funds and human resources among others.

The report described the usage of charcoal and fuel wood as a negative impact on the forests and biodiversity resources.

The report was launched during the celebrations of World Environment Day on June five.

The celebration was characterized by creating awareness on the threats to the environment by natural causes and man-made actions.

The celebration also highlighted the need to take urgent action to safe the environment.
