The Union of Liberian Orphanages has reported ill treatment of children at the Liberia Children and Abounded Orphanage on the Bomi Highway.
The Union said it was informed by the Christian Aid Ministry that the children were forced to wash their faces with urine as punishment.
The president of the Union told Star Radio, during an investigation, the brother of the proprietor admitted the incident.
Rev. Alexander Stenm said the investigation also showed that the children are used on Sundays as laborers at the farm of Deputy Health Minister Mohammed Sheriff.
He said the actions were inhumane and have been forwarded to the Deputy Minister of Health for Social Welfare.
Rev. Stenm said the Orphanage was placed on closure list a year ago because it was substandard.
When contacted the Administrative Assistant to Deputy Minister Sheriff denied the allegation and said as far as he’s concerned the Minister does not have a farm.
