Criminal Court A has released Mai Gehnyou, a woman police has been keeping in detention for a week without charge.

Madam Gehnyou’s release followed a compulsory writ of habeas corpus the court issued Wednesday on the Justice Ministry and the Liberia National Police.

Their failure to adhere to an earlier writ to produce the living body of Madam Gehnyou provoked the compulsory writ of Habeas Corpus.

Judge Boimah Kontoe said the police action was illegal since the government did not file any returns to the writ.

Madam Gehnyou told Star Radio the Deputy Police Commissioner for Administration lead the team that arrested her.

She also accused Deputy CID Chief Sam Saryon of having knowledge of her arrest and detention.

Madam Gehnyou alleged the two senior police officers flogged and maltreated her.

Sam Saryon admitted having knowledge of the arrest of Madam Gehnyou but denied the allegation of flogging her.
