Former Transitional Chairman Gyude Bryant has been detained at the Monrovia Central Prison.

Former Chairman Bryant was arrested by Sheriffs of Criminal Court ‘C’ Friday morning at his Mamba Point residence.

Our Judicial reporter said Mr. Bryant was processed by prison officials and thrown behind bars.

The arrest and detention of the former head of state followed request by state prosecutors for the Criminal Court ‘C’ to arrest him for bill jumping.

The court accepted the state’s request on grounds that Mr. Bryant disrespected it by refusing to accept an assignment notice from the court.

Mr. Bryant is being prosecuted for allegedly causing financial loss to the state during his two-year transitional period.

Mr. Bryant is the first former Liberian head of state to be detained in the country for alleged financial corruption during his rule.

Meanwhile, as Mr. Bryant was being escorted to his cell, he met and shook hands with detained former Speaker George Kuokou.

Mr. Koukou is facing trial for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government along with some former personnel of the dissolved AFL.
