Humanity United gives STAR radio generous grant

One of our top goals this year at STAR radio is to broaden our base of support to include new types of donor and partners from different countries.   This was achieved this year when Global Giving (www.globalgiving.com) agreed to our request to include STAR Radio on its internet platform which allows individuals  to fund international projects of interest, and for Americans to donate on a tax-free basis.  Since we posted a project description on Global Giving four months ago, STAR Radio has earned a total of $3,000 donated by a dozen  individuals.  We learned recently that Humanity United, a grant-making organization based in California, will donate $130,000 to STAR Radio in Liberia through the Global Giving site.   Many thanks to Global Giving and Humanity United for their generous support to STAR radio!
Investigation shows passport cartel but director says it's challenged Print E-mail

A Star Radio investigation shows the existence of a passport-crime ring in the Passport Section at the Foreign Ministry despite efforts to transform the section.

Our reporter who visited the section saw non-passport staff shuttling between their offices and the passport section, finding potential passport applicants.

Passport Director Mary Broh admitted the existence of a passport-lobby group but claimed her tenure has managed to break it by eighty percent.

Madam Broh however, told Star Radio remnants of the passport crime ring are still around and posing problems.

She expressed the hope they would be flushed out of the passport section gradually.

The Passport Director also disclosed that diplomatic negotiations are taking place to make the ECOWAS Passports gain international status.

Madam Broh said if the negotiations succeed for the ECOWAS Passport to carry visas, the Liberian passports would be withdrawn and replaced with the ECOWAS Passport.
