A Montserrado County Representative says unless the Commerce Ministry implements the proposed tax waiver on a bag of rice it would not be felt by ordinary Liberians.

Representative Edward Forh said over the year, reductions in the prices of basic commodities have not been enforced.

He said the Commerce Ministry needs to follow up on its price control structure by closing business entities violating the law.

Representative Forh said any business entity found deliberately profiteering should be taken to court and charged for economic sabotage.

The Montserrado lawmaker observed that the law passed by the Legislature, reducing the tariff on zinc, copy books and other commodities have not been enforced.

Representative Forh said instead of the law benefiting the people, prices of basic commodities have increased.
