Global Giving is an on-line marketplace which allows people to donate to international projects that appeal to their interests and STAR radio is now a Global Giving project! This means that our American supporters may now make tax-deductible donations to STAR.
Humanity United gives STAR radio generous grant
One of our top goals this year at STAR radio is to
broaden our base of support to include new types of donor and partners from
different countries. This was achieved
this year when Global Giving (www.globalgiving.com)
agreed to our request to include STAR Radio on its internet platform which
allows individuals to fund international
projects of interest, and for Americans to donate on a tax-free basis. Since we posted a project description on
Global Giving four months ago, STAR Radio has earned a total of $3,000 donated
by a dozen individuals. We learned recently that Humanity United, a
grant-making organization based in California, will donate $130,000 to STAR
Radio in Liberia through the Global Giving site. Many
thanks to Global Giving and Humanity United for their generous support to STAR
radio!
Gyude Bryant, others released to Episcopal Bishop

Friday, 09 May 2008
The Criminal Court ‘C’ has released former transitional Chairman Gyude Bryant and four others to the custody of Episcopal Bishop Jonathan Hart.
The other indictees are former Speaker Edwin Snowe, Senator Richard Divine, Mr. Shieka Sheriff and Andie Quamie.
The court had indicted them for theft and economic sabotage.
The indictment followed a suit filed by government for money they allegedly embezzled at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company during the transitional period.
The government accused Bryant, Snowe and others of embezzling nine hundred twenty-three thousand five hundred U.S. dollars from the refinery.
The amount includes two hundred fourteen thousand fifty-five dollars for alleged bribery and act constituting criminal conspiracy.
Mr. Snowe served as Managing Director while Devine and Sheriff served as deputies of the LPRC during the transitional period.
Mr. Quamie is an aide to former Speaker Snowe.
Under Liberian law, theft of property and economic sabotage are bailable offenses based on the submission of a valid bail bond.
Bishop Hart promised to produce Mr. Bryant and his co-defendants in court within three working days.
