Global Giving is an on-line marketplace which allows people to donate to international projects that appeal to their interests and STAR radio is now a Global Giving project! This means that our American supporters may now make tax-deductible donations to STAR.
Humanity United gives STAR radio generous grant
One of our top goals this year at STAR radio is to
broaden our base of support to include new types of donor and partners from
different countries. This was achieved
this year when Global Giving (www.globalgiving.com)
agreed to our request to include STAR Radio on its internet platform which
allows individuals to fund international
projects of interest, and for Americans to donate on a tax-free basis. Since we posted a project description on
Global Giving four months ago, STAR Radio has earned a total of $3,000 donated
by a dozen individuals. We learned recently that Humanity United, a
grant-making organization based in California, will donate $130,000 to STAR
Radio in Liberia through the Global Giving site. Many
thanks to Global Giving and Humanity United for their generous support to STAR
radio!
BRE employees complain of bad labor practice

Workers of Buchanan Renewable Energies have complained of bad labor practice at the company.
The workers said they have been working with the company for over seven months but are still on probation.
Some of the workers who spoke to Star Radio also complained of being paid low salaries.
They called on President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to intervene to improve their working conditions.
When contacted BRE’s Vice President for Government’s Relations, Roosevelt Gould, said the company was going through a period of transition.
Mr. Gould informed reporters; the company has been bought by a new Manager and would address the issues this week.
However, the Front Page Africa quoted Mr. Gould as saying the workers signed a one year contract with a three-month probation. “So if management didn’t go back to them, it means they are employed.
Meanwhile, the Buchanan Renewable Energies has engaged in producing vegetables and other fruits for consumption.
The ten acre project is being carried out by a group of women in Grand Bassa County.
The spokesperson of women named collard greens, carrots, watermelon, among others as food being grown under the project.
The women disclosed plans to engage in rice farming on a large scale to help the fight to make Liberia sufficient in food production.
President Sirleaf who inspected the project thanked the company and the women for the initiative.
Madam Sirleaf however called on them to produce not just for their own consumption.
