Global Giving is an on-line marketplace which allows people to donate to international projects that appeal to their interests and STAR radio is now a Global Giving project! This means that our American supporters may now make tax-deductible donations to STAR.
Humanity United gives STAR radio generous grant
One of our top goals this year at STAR radio is to
broaden our base of support to include new types of donor and partners from
different countries. This was achieved
this year when Global Giving (www.globalgiving.com)
agreed to our request to include STAR Radio on its internet platform which
allows individuals to fund international
projects of interest, and for Americans to donate on a tax-free basis. Since we posted a project description on
Global Giving four months ago, STAR Radio has earned a total of $3,000 donated
by a dozen individuals. We learned recently that Humanity United, a
grant-making organization based in California, will donate $130,000 to STAR
Radio in Liberia through the Global Giving site. Many
thanks to Global Giving and Humanity United for their generous support to STAR
radio!
Father Tikpor, Baptist Preacher speak on National Unification
Written by Wellington Geevon Smith
Wednesday, 14 May 2008
Catholic Father Robert Tikpor says the blood of thousands of Liberians shed in the civil war should be the basis for a strong foundation for national unity.
Father Tikpor recalled in the past, there was nothing to bring Liberians together as a people.
Speaking on national unification, the historian told Star Radio, nations in Africa are united because they have common reasons to come together as people.
According to Father Tikpor, the fore-fathers who conceived National Unification Day knew that disunity existed and there was need for unity.
Father Tikpor called on Liberians to reflect on the errors of the past and strengthen national unity.
Meanwhile, a Baptist Preacher says Liberians are yet to experience national unification.
The Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Oldest Congo Town said Liberians are divided in all sectors of the country.
Rev. Joseph Gardea-Johnson told Star Radio unless all leaders of the country take the lead, the ordinary citizens would always show less interest.
Rev. Gardea-Johnson said the act creating National Unification Day was good but implementation is lacking.
The Baptist Clergyman pointed out that reconciliation remains a major challenge to the country.
He alleged there are perpetrators posing as victims who do not want to identify as contributors to the country’s civil conflict.
Rev. Gardea-Johnson recommended the organization of an all-Liberian conference to find a way forward.
He said at the conference everyone would have the opportunity to give his or her view on the reconciliation and unification of the country.
