The outgoing Country Director of the World Health Organization says there are still areas in the health sector that need more attention.

Dr. Eugene Nyarko named maternal health, HIV Control and Immunization.

Dr. Nyarko said the high rate of maternal mortality in Liberia calls for serious attention and more resources.

On HIV/AIDS Control, Dr. Nyarko said there is a need for more awareness to encourage people on prevention and counseling services.

On immunization, he lauded government and its partners for the anti-polio campaign but stressed that sustenance remains a major challenge.

Dr. Nyarko however, identified the National Health Policy, National AIDS Commission and setting up of Lassa fever center at the Phebe hospital as achievements.

Dr. Nyarko who arrived in Liberia in October 2004 described his nearly four years of supportive service to the Health Ministry as exciting.

He assured that Liberia will continue to enjoy the WHO’s support despite the change of the Country Representative.

He spoke when the Health Ministry gowned and certificated him for his massive support during his stay in Liberia.

Dr. Nesta Ndinjimearie replaces Dr. Nyarko as Country Representative.
