The Minister of Education says he will never bow to pressure to join another political party for the sake of protecting his job.

Dr. Joseph Korto said joining the ruling Unity Party government is not a precondition for citizens to serve the government and the state.

Dr. Korto said if it were a precondition, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf would not have appointed some of them who are not UP partisans to key positions in government.

He said joining a political party for the purpose of protecting jobs is like compromising your constitutional right.

The Education Minister however, clarified that nobody has ever asked him to join the ruling Unity Party to enable him retain his ministerial post.

Dr. Korto’s remark comes in the wake of reports that non-partisans holding ministerial posts are under pressure to join the ruling party or resign.

Dr. Korto maintained that as long as he enjoys the confidence of the President, he remains committed to serving the government and people with honesty.

The former Standard-bearer of the Equal Rights Party assured he would not do anything to undermine the UP-led government.
