The Coordinator of Firestone in Maryland County has identified cross border rubber trade as a major hindrance to development.

Mr. Morris Kanneh claimed rubber is being smuggled out of the country to the Ivory Coast without the payment of taxes.

He described the act as dangerous for rubber brokers and other entities but did not say who were involved in the practice.

The Firestone Maryland Coordinator wants government to monitor cross border activities and ensure that actual taxes are paid.

He believes if taxes are being paid on the cross border rubber trade, it will help government’s revenue and compelled it to reconnect the region.

Mr. Kanneh also told Star Radio, Maryland which is one of the highest rubber producing counties has a very bad road network.
