The National Democratic Party of Liberia has filled a prohibition petition with Chambers Justice Jamesetta Wollokollie against the Senate.
In the 12-count petition, the NDPL and co- defendant Nyenabo described the senate’s action as illegal and called for its prevention.
According to the document, the senate’s action violated its own standing rules and the constitution.
The petitioners claimed the senate’s decision to suspend President Pro tempore Nyanebo was taken before the presidential proclamation of August 12, asking them to extend their regular session.
The petition also said there was never a request from the Legislature for an extension of its’ regular session.
The petitioners want the suspension decision halted and a pre-emptory issued to stop what they called the illegal action.
Our Judicial correspondent said it is likely that the petition could be sent to the full bench of the Supreme Court because the petitioners raised constitutional issues.
