President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has directed the Justice Ministry to investigate the authenticity of email exchanges discussing business deals.

The email exchanges bearing the name of former State Minister, Willis Knuckles and others, discuss business deals involving government’s pending negotiations with the Liberian Maritime Registry (LISCR).

The Executive Mansion says the email exchanges attempt to link the Office of the President to the deals.

An Executive Mansion release clarified the President’s Office has not given license to any third party to serve as negotiator for the LISCR deal.

The President has also directed the Justice Ministry to request the Chief Justice in consultation with the Liberia National Bar Association, to designate an Independent Special Prosecutor.

The Special Prosecutor will probe the legal implications of the allegations and recommend necessary actions.

The Executive Mansion disclosed it has contacted the U.S. State Department soliciting its support to investigate the matter.
