The orator of this year’s Flag Day program Sister Mary Laurene Brown says the flag should be seen as a symbol for unity and patriotism.
Sister Laurene said unity would ensure that everyone creates a national goal while pursuing the accomplishment of that goal.
Sister Laurene said unity must go along with the mind that success and failure of the goal depends on each one.
The Stella Maris Polytechnic President said being a patriotic citizen, one must take his destiny in his own hands while at the same time give direction to his government.
Sister Laurene Browne said the idea of taking initiatives to form community watch teams should be adopted to tackle national goals such as education, agriculture among others.
According to the Flag Day Orator patriotism is not a cosmetic exercise but a challenge to see the goodness of a nation and the prosperity of its people.
Meanwhile, the Gray D. Addison High School in Monrovia has again won the parade award of the National Flag Day celebrations.
The William V. S. Tubman High School and St. Theresa Convent took second and third places respectively.
Announcing the results, the head of the panel judges said the awards of all categories were summed up into one.
They include best eyes-right given; best dressed and well disciplined schools.
Retired General Francis Dolo encouraged the schools to always be courageous for the promotion of their institutions.
Twenty-five schools took part in the parade with five from Bong, Bomi, Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, and Margibi Counties.
