The Executive mansion has reportedly launched a probe into what appears to be a major corruption scandal at the Postal Affairs Ministry.

The scandal involves Assistant Postal Affairs Minister for Administration Therry Swatie Genesis.

Postal Affairs Minister Jeremiah Sulunteh told a news conference Tuesday, about seven thousand US dollars and some fifty thousand Liberian dollars was lost to power theft.

Minister Sulunteh said a special committee set up to investigate the alleged power theft found that Mr. Genesis was aware of the illegal power deal.

He said the committee revealed that eleven businesses around the Postal Affairs Ministry benefited from the supply of power supply.

According to Minister Sulunteh these businesses were all paying bills underground.

Mr. Sulunteh said the illegal power trade was uncovered when the beneficiaries displayed receipts after the lines were cut upon his orders.

He said while the scandal was being investigated, Mr. Genesis reported to the Mansion that the Minister had siphoned about seventy-five thousand US dollars.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sulunteh has dismissed Deputy Minister Genesis’ allegation describing it as a preemptive strike.

When contacted, Mr. Genesis said the minister distorted the facts and that at no time was he personally involved in power theft.
