Under-16 basketball squad departs Print E-mail

The National Under-16 female basketball team has left the country.


The Under-16 female team is heading or Benin for the Zone III Under-16 youth championship.
 

About thirteen players along with technical staffers as well as officials from the basketball federation make up the delegation.
 

Some players of the national Under-16 female basketball team expressed concern over the disbursement of perdiems by basketball authorities.
 

Captain Rosemet Goodridge and teammate Siana Smith told Star Radio with few hours to their departure they have not been given any perdiem.
 

The players also told Star Radio minutes before departure that they were not given any money as perdiem.
 

They claimed they were highly under motivated going into the competition.
 

Meanwhile, the Comptroller General of the Finance Ministry told Star Radio all would be done to have the players received their perdiems.
 

Mr. James Bokar said his ministry received the communication for the team’s departure on Tuesday afternoon.
 

Mr.Bokar said considering the process involve in disbursing funds from the ministry it would be difficult to get certain things done for the team.
 

He disclosed an airline was contacted to provide tickets for the delegation which government would pay later.
