Justice Minister Philip Banks has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to probe allegations of rampant corruption at the National Port Authority.
The allegations were made by one Solomon Bah, who claims he was dismissed for exposing corrupt practices at the Freeport of Monrovia.
In a letter addressed to the NBI Director dated August 21, 2008, Minister Banks said the authorization is consistent with government’s commitment to promote and implement its policy on zero tolerance on corruption.
Minister Banks authorized the NBI to handle the Freeport matter exclusively by using every legal and professional means in the course of one month.
According to the Minister’s letter, the report must be complete and conclusive and not preliminary as the NBI did in its previous report.
Solomon Bah staged a one man demonstration in front of the Justice Ministry last week demanding that the Ministry probe allegation of rampant corruption at the Freeport.
Mr. Bah also called on the Ministry to act on recommendations from a special committee set up to probe allegation and to ensure his return to work.
