The new US Ambassador to Liberia Linda Thomas Greenfield says Liberia still faces daunting challenges.
Ambassador Greenfield said Liberia must among other things, fix its broken justice system, develop its civil society and independent media to reverse the social and cultural damage from the war years.
The first female US ambassador to Liberia also wants all Liberians to fight corruption and work together to forge a true national identity.
Presenting her letters of credence, Ambassador Greenfield pledged to support government in every sector of its recovery program.
Madam Greenfield recounted the strong historical ties between the US and Liberia, saying Liberia is the US closest friend in Africa.
She pledged to work hard to ensure that US attention and commitment to Liberia do not diminish during what she called a crucial post conflict period.
In response, President Sirleaf acknowledged that there are still a lot of challenges in Liberia despite the progress being made.
She thanked the US government for its support in several sectors of the Country’s recovery program especially the training of the Armed Forces.
President Sirleaf believes with the support of the US and other partners as well as all Liberians, the Country would move forward.
