The House Committee on Elections and Inauguration has described as crucial the draft Act to set the threshold to reapportion constituencies.

The Chairman of the Committee said the proposed Act seeks to increase the threshold of constituency to avoid a Constitutional crisis.

Representative Gabriel Smith said the draft threshold Act is in line with Article 80-d of the Constitution.

According to him, this provision provides that each constituency shall have an approximately equal population of twenty thousand.

He said if the National Elections Commission keeps such population for every constituency there will be an increase in the number of constituencies.
