A delegation of the Pan African Trade Union Education Programme has arrived in the country as guest of the Liberia Labour Congress.
The head of the delegation said they are impressed about the merger between the two major trade union groups in Liberia.
Mr. Lars Bengtsson said PANAF is a workers’ education programme which empowers workers through self-directed learning.
According to Mr. Bengtsson, such education can be achieved through the exchange of knowledge and experiences shared in study circles.
Also, the Secretary General of the Liberia Labour Congress said the trade union movement is opting to be free of government and employers’ control.
Mr. Marcus Blamah said with that independence, the rights of workers will be upheld at work places but was quick to say that it is not an easy task.
The Secretary General of the trade union movement believes with the supports from international partners, more will be achieved for workers in post-conflict Liberia.
