Liberia, Denmark sign MOU for debt cancellation Print E-mail

Liberia
and Denmark have signed a bilateral agreement on debt cancellation.
 

The agreement clears the way for the cancellation of more than thirty million dollars in bilateral debt Liberia owes the European nation.
 

The two countries have also signed a MOU on Danish support to Liberia and the United Nations Joint Program on Food and Nutrition.
 

Danish Minister for Development, Madam Ulla Tornaes, signed on behalf of her country while the Deputy Finance Minister Tarnue Mawolo and Acting Foreign Minister, William Bull signed for Liberia.
 

The Danish delegation is also on a fact-finding mission to identify programs relevant for promoting gender equality and women economic empowerment.
 

Earlier during a meeting, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf welcomed Denmark’s support toward the reconstruction and development of Liberia.
 

She also thanked Denmark for selecting Liberia as a pilot country for the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals-Three.
 

Denmark
recently announced a twenty-two million dollar financial package to Liberia’s initiatives of gender equality and women empowerment.

Thanks to the people of Denmark. Liberia will do all it can to rebuild herself. Liberia will use the opportunity of the Millennium Development Goals-Three to empowered it citizen with jobs opportunity for the country women empowerment for the reconstruction of Liberia.
