An official of the disbanded LURD rebel movement has defended his statement at the truth commission that Senator Isaac Nyenabo served as director of war.

Mr. Joe Wylie recalled when LURD was being formed in Guinea, Senator Nyenabo served as its Secretary General and changed the name of his office to Director of War.

Mr. Wylie wondered why a man who himself created an office would try to distance himself from same and deny its existence.

The former LURD official said Damate Conneh and Nyenboe fell off after Nyenaboe was arrested and jailed for ten days in Conakry, Guinea.

He explained the rift developed when Nyenabo crowned himself Director of War and overlapped the functions of the Chairman.

The former LURD commander further told Star Radio that it was the rebel movement that shell Monrovia in the quest to remove the Taylor’s regime.

Mr. Wylie said it is of no doubt that the eighty-one millimeter mortar gun used by LURD on Monrovia could hit any part of the city.

The admission contradicts the testimony of Damate Conneh who denied that his rebel forces did not shell Monrovia.

Mr. Wyllie however, described the former LURD Chairman as a person who knew little about the organization.

The office of Senator Nyenaboe denied the claims and called on Wyllie to produce the command structure of the disbanded rebel movement.
