Police officer acquitted of rape charge in Grand Kru

A Police officer has been acquitted after being tried for rape in the Circuit Court in Grand Kru County.
Jurors in the Court presided over by Judge Peter Gbanewleh set the officer free because the evidence adduced at the trial could not warrant conviction.
Police authorities disrobed Officer Dave Wortuah and sent to him court in December 2007 after rape allegation against him.
Officer Wortuah was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Behwan, Trehn Statutory District.
Sources told Star Radio the Police detachment in Grand Kru County had a big celebration when jurors brought a unanimous not guilty verdict in favor of their colleague.
There has been a series of rape allegations against police officers working in rural Liberia.
An officer assigned in Rivercess County is the latest rape suspect.
A teenage girl alleged the officer cuffed her before sexually abusing her.
