The Environmental Protection Agency says the lack of detective laboratory to test LMOs and GMOs is one of the major constraints to improve bio-safety.
LMOs are Living Modifier Organisms while GMOs are Genetically Modifier Organisms, which are organisms used by science to be modified.
EPA Executive Director Ben Donnie said due to the lack of the equipment, the country environment has become vulnerable.
Mr. Donnie also named poor borders and inadequate awareness as other factors that could allow ancient species into the country.
The EPA boss said despite the challenges, some advances have been made on bio-safety in the country.
Mr. Donnie spoke at the 5th anniversary of the Cartagena Protocol on bio-safety.
The Protocol seeks to ensure the safe transfer, handing and use of living modified organisms resulting from biotechnology.
