The Secretary General of the ruling Unity Party says the WAEC exams should not be the only means of evaluating students in the country.
Mr. Henry Fahnbulleh believes the West African Examination Council should include in its programs other means of evaluation such as volunteerism and community initiatives.
Mr. Fahnbulleh said fifty percent emphasis should be placed on academic achievements while the rest on volunteerism and community initiatives.
He observed that passing WAEC exam as the only requirement for high school graduation brings so much pressure on the students.
Mr. Fahnbulleh said because of the pressure, students go the extent of stealing the exams just to make a pass.
He said such development in the school system has caused the quality of education to drop with students running after grades to graduate.
Mr. Fahnbulleh said he would lead efforts to petition the House to pass a law allowing other means of evaluating students than just the WAEC exams.
The UP Secretary General spoke Thursday when he served as Guest Speaker on the twenty-fourth graduation exercises of the Nathan E. Gibson School in Paynesville.
