The Press Union of Liberia says an independent probe with international flavor is the surest way of ensuring transparency in the corruption scandal involving the Presidency.

The union sees the email scandal and the process of ensuring a logical conclusion to the investigation as a test for the Ellen Sirleaf government.

A statement issued by the PUL described the role of Civil Society organizations in the formation of such investigation board as very crucial.

The Media Umbrella Group considers the situation as worrisome, wondering whether similar arrangements were not unfolding in other concessional agreements.

The PUL urged that National Legislature, UN, international Crisis Group and U.S. government to add their voices for an independent inquiry.

The union maintained that it is not interested in how the email communications were obtained by Frontpage Africa but contents and those linked to the scandal.

The Press Union commended the Liberian media community for unearthing and following up on the scandal.

The statement urged journalists to continue their reportage with the principles of good journalism.
