Pres. Sirleaf speaks on anti-corruption commission, Western Cluster |

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has justified why Cllr. Frances Johnson-Morris was appointed without consultations with the civil society.
The President claimed there was urgency in getting the anti corruption commission passed before the annual break of the National Legislature.
Madam Sirleaf however, said the backgrounds of all of the members of the anti-corruption commission including Cllr. Morris were checked before their appointments.
According to the President, Cllr. Morris was chosen to head the commission because she met the criteria of being fiery and tough.
Cllr. Morris was confirmed by the Senate amidst opposition from the civil society and opposition political parties.
Though Cllr. Morris and other ACC members have been confirmed, the President says she’s willing to meet with the civil society and would consider any strong evidence of fault.
Meanwhile, President Sirleaf said government risk lawsuit in the cancellation of the results of the bid for the Western Cluster.
Government cancelled the bid, disqualified the winner Delta Steel and another bidder TATA Steel from partaking in a re-bidding.
The decision was based on what the government considered external influence on the bidding process that is yet to be proven.
President Sirleaf told a news conference though there is no clear evidence yet, government can not overlook the reports for political reasons.
An investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute all persons or institutions engaged in any illegal act relating to the Western Cluster bid.
It followed media investigative reports on a scandal linking the former Minister of State, Willis Knuckles and the presidency.
The President called on all Liberians to allow the investigation work without interference.
She disclosed that LISCR international office has conducted an investigation and submitted its report to be forwarded to the probe commission.
Meanwhile, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority has asked CELLCOM to temporarily relieve Mr. Knuckles of his post while the investigation is ongoing.
Mr. Knuckles serves as the Chairman of the Board of the mobile phone company.

she is trying to sweep it under the carpet.she knows every thing that is going on let her not pretend to to be innocent.let the press dig deeper and ask more questions a lot will come out. |
