The Indian-based company, Tata Steel says it is taking up issue with Liberia over its disqualification from the bidding process of the Western Cluster.

In a statement, Tata Steel expressed serious concerned that its reputation is being tarnished by the government without verification.

According to the company, it is unaware to whatever alleged external influence and improprieties in its bidding process.

It clarified that its representation in Liberia was handled by a local based consultancy firm during the bidding process.

Government on Monday cancelled the bidding process for the Western Cluster iron ore deposits and disqualified Tata Steel and Delta Mining from any future bid.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting last week following a critical review of the due diligence report of Deliotte and Touche.

Information Minister Laurence Bropleh told Star Radio the review noticed, the process was compromised by external influence or impropriety.

The Inter-Ministerial and concession Committee and the Ministry of Lands Mines and Energy have been directed to ensure that the re-bidding process be transparent.

At the same time, the cabinet has directed the Justice Ministry to prosecute any persons and institutions that influence the process by illegal acts.

The 1.6 billion dollar contract involves the mining of iron ore in the Western Clusters which comprises Mano River and Bea Mountains among others.
