The Senate has asked President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to revoke the certification of Joseph Arqui as Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The Senate made the call Thursday following a communication by Senator Jewel Howard Taylor.
Senator Taylor informed the Senate that Mr. Arqui has not met the requirement for confirmation.
She said Mr. Arqui was asked by the Committee on Public Corporations and Autonomous Commissions to resign his membership with the Unity Party.
According to Senator Taylor, provisions of the anti-corruption Act require the public resignation of any nominee from his or her political party.
The Senate termed Wednesday’s commissioning of Mr. Joseph Arqui by President Sirleaf as an error.
Meanwhile, the National Legislature has approved the Community Rights Law aimed at ensuring locals participation in the resource management of the forest.
The Legislature took the decision Thursday after the House of Representatives concurred with the Senate in passing the law.
The Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee Thomas Fallah described the passage of the law as remarkable.
According to Representative Fallah, local dwellers including town chiefs and community leaders would be allowed to manage the investment of the forest.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives would tomorrow officially adjourn its sitting for a three-month Agriculture break.
