Government says plans are underway for the establishment of a recycling plant for the Scrap Industry of the country.
Lands, Mines and Energy Minister Dr. Eugene Shannon said a Spanish Company has been short listed to establish the plant.
Dr. Shannon said the company was short listed by the National Investment Commission in collaboration with the Inter-ministerial committee.
Minister Shannon did not however, give the name of company but said it went through procedures and regulations of the NIC to carry out scraping activities in the country.
He believed the recycling plant, when established, would help to reduce the high cost of recycled materials in the country.
Dr. Shannon spoke Saturday at a one day workshop for stakeholders in the scrap industry.
The forum was intended to enable stakeholders in the scrap industry understand the regulation and policies set up by government to control the industry.
The President of Liberia Scrap Association, Edwin Urey pledged the association’s continual commitment to adhere to the regulations and policies.
Mr. Urey urged its members to serve as watch-dogs and safeguard the scrap industry of the country.
