The new Liberian Ambassador to the United States has presented his Letters of Credence to President George Bush.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf named Mr. Nathaniel Barnes as the new ambassador to replace Mr. Charles Minor who served the position for four years.

Before his new diplomatic assignment, Mr. Barnes served as Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2006.

A former Finance Minister during the regime of detained former President Charles Taylor, Mr. Barnes contested the October 2005 Presidential elections and lost.

He declared support for the candidacy of Madam Sirleaf in the November run-off and was sent to the UN after Madam Sirleaf won the Presidency.
