The Liberia refugee agency says it has begun the integration of Sierra Leonean refugees in the Liberian society.
The Acting Director LRRRC said the Sierra Leonean refugees integrated are those who expressed willingness to remain in Liberia following years of conflict on their country.
Mr. Saah Nyumah said Liberia signed the 1951 Geneva Convention on the rights of refugees, which give them right to choose an area of residence following war that displaced them.
The Sierra Leone Embassy thanked the Liberian government for considering its citizens as part of the Liberian society.
An official of the Sierra Leonean Embassy, Mohaamed Sesay called on those integrated to be law-abiding.
For her part, UNHCR Senior Protection Officer Sharon Cooper said the UN remains committed to welfare refugees in Liberia.
Sixteen families were integrated in Bensonville, Montserrado County following the renovation of thirty structures.
LRRRC authorities put the valued of the structures at one hundred fifty-three thousand United States Dollars.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of the Sierra Leonean Refugee Welfare Committee has called for international effort to save him from getting blind.
Abdul Sesay told Star Radio he suffered multiple effects of torture during the Liberian and Sierra Leonean wars.
Mr. Sesay said his situation was becoming increasingly worse as he was loosing his sight for lack of proper medical care.
According to Abdul Sesay, many Sierra Leonean refugees can longer afford a decent meal and were now selling broom straws for survival.
