State security at the Ganta Port of Entry in Nimba County has intercepted a Guinean national with a huge consignment of gold.
Our correspondent said Keita Bunzu entered Liberia with nearly nineteen thousand grams of processed gold concealed in a food basket.
Keita was arrested while in an argument with a boy he may have contacted to cross his bag for LD$150.00.
Customs officials at the Ganta border declined to comment but Star Radio gathered the gold valued more than US$400,000.00.
According to our correspondent, Keita would have paid a customs duty of US$45,000 to government if he had officially declared the mineral at the collectorate.
A security personnel hinted Star Radio, Keita would instead pay twice of the amount in government’s revenue because of the attempted smuggling.
Meanwhile, Keita and the consignment of gold were placed in a gray-jeep, heavily guarded by security personnel and headed for Monrovia.
