Civil Society Coalition commends House |

The National Coalition of Civil Society Organizations has commended the House for adopting a resolution, seeking a National Referendum on certain provisions of the constitution.
The resolution adopted by the House seeks to repeal absolute majority clause for elective positions except for the President and Vice President.
Consultations have been going on regarding the issue of absolute majority clause of the constitution.
Authorities of the National Elections Commission say it costs the state too much money to organize run-off in every election that cannot produce fifty percent plus one vote.
The Lower House also wants the referendum to reduce the term of Senators, which now stands at nine years.
The Resolution passed by the House further seeks to reduce the power of the President who has the power to dismiss elected Chiefs from office.
The National Coalition of Civil Society Organizations said it fully supports the resolution and promised to organize public forum for broader participation.
The coalition called on the Senate to concur with the Lower House in the passage of the resolution.
