The first batch of 139 Emergency Response Unit is expected to complete an eight-month training exercise on October 3.

The ERU was established within the Liberia National Police to combat the increasing rate of armed robbery and other crimes.

Part of the mandate of the ERU is to deal with riot control, anti-crime patrols in high crime areas and to provide assistance in major disaster situations.

Our reporter who visited the training grounds on Tuesday saw an excellent display of tactical skills which require the use of fire arms.

The U.S. government is providing specialized trainers, protective and tactical equipment and firearms while the Irish government provided thirty vehicles.
