Confusion broke out Wednesday at the Edward Binyan Kessely military barracks in Lower Margibi County.
The EBK soldiers were reportedly protesting over the abrupt change of apartment rooms to accommodate their colleagues from camp Sandi Ware.
The protesting soldiers reportedly resisted a Defense Ministry order to swap apartment rooms and exchanged blows with a Nigerian UNMIL officer.
The Sergeant Major only identified as Keeba insisted that the EBK soldiers vacate their air-conditioned rooms to accommodate their colleagues from Camp Ware.
A spokesman for the disenchanted EBK soldiers hinted that they would continue to occupy their air-cooled rooms and will not bow to threats.
The EBK spokesman who begged for confidentiality said the new apartment buildings they were being taken to were substandard and unfit for them .
Our reporter who visited the EBK barracks said calm has returned to the area although he could hear soldiers chanting slogans from within the barracks.
Commenting on the Wednesday’s incident, the Ministry of National Defense said the situation was an isolated case, which requires disciplinary measures.
A Defense Ministry statement issued Wednesday said the situation at EBK barracks was being dealt with by the military high command.
Statement categorically denied that disenchanted soldiers had carried out a demonstration which has drawn public attention.
The Ministry said it wants to inform the general public and its international partners that there has been no issue of rioting at the EBK military barracks.
Disenchanted soldiers of the 23rd Infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Liberia Wednesday protested their abrupt removal from their comfortable air-cooled apartments.
The exercise was intended to accommodate more than five hundred of their colleagues who had graduated from the Sandi Ware military barracks at VOA.
