The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has embarked on a public awareness program for people engaged in the sale of food items.

The Coordinator of the Food Safety Program said the first phase targets about nine market areas in Monrovia and would last for three months.

Mr. Francis Tamba told Star Radio the ministry has observed that poorly managed food continues to increase the health risk of consumers.

Mr. Tamba said many people engaged in the sale of cooked food do not observed safety measures.

He said the program would sensitize cooked food sellers on how to preserve food items properly.

Mr. Tamba said the ministry has already deployed nine health monitors in the targeted market areas for the exercise.

According to Mr. Tamba, the program would be extended to public areas outside Monrovia following the first phase of the program.
